Southwest Chapter Meeting

Wednesday, January 25, 7:00 PM

Room 115, Dixie State College Science Building

Aubrey Bonde

"Pleistocene Megaherbivores: What's there to eat in an Ice Age?"

Those of us who attended our previous meeting in November 2011 may remember Aubrey: she accompanied her husband Joshua Bonde who gave us his second presentation at that meeting, Aubrey was also the first president of the Nevada Friends of Paleontology which she helped establish.
Aubrey graduated from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology with a B.S. where she worked primarily on Oligocene mammals from Badlands National Park and dinosaurs from the Hell Creek Formation. She then moved on to Kent State University for a M.S. and transitioned to invertebrates. Her thesis was on Jurassic crustaceans from Romania, having made two separate trips to Romania for field work and discovering several new species. After which, she decided that she liked working the most with mammal fossils and now is at University of Nevada, Las Vegas finishing up her Ph.D. on large mammals from the Late Pleistocene.

IT'S DUES TIME AGAIN

You may want to print out the attached form and bring it to the meeting with your payment, or mail it to the address on the form.

Southwest Chapter Meeting Information

Our meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every other month (September-May) at 7:00 p.m., unless otherwise notified. Until further notice, meetings will be held in Room 115 in the Science Building at Dixie State College, close to 100 S. and 900 E. in St. George.

We generally have a guest speaker who makes his presentation immediately after the membership's business meeting. Attendance varies: between 20 and 45 people per meeting. We also organize field trips, and many of us volunteer at the museum as preppers or guides/docents. Our chapter advisor is SGDS Curator and Paleontologist A.R.C. Milner.

We have around 60 paying members and 14 honorary members. Members pay $20 per year as a family, $15 as individuals, and $10 as students. Guests are always welcome.
